Maj. Gen. Chukwuemeka Okonkwo (rtd)
Maj Gen Chukwuemeka Okonkwo (rtd) is a seasoned professional and strategic leader with about 35 years of exemplary service in the Nigerian military. Proven track records in strategic planning, project management, conflict management, defence diplomacy and organizational development.
He successfully managed and administered the Nigerian Army Post Service Housing Limited where he served as MD/CEO (2014-2015)and later served as GMD Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee (2021). He was also Director of Engineering Services at the Defence Headquarters (2017-2018).
Maj Gen Okonkwo has vast experience in combat and counter insurgency operations having served as a troop commander in the ECOWAS Monitoring Group Operations in Sierra Leone and Liberia (1992-1993), Team leader Military Observer Team in United Nations Mission in DR Congo (2004-2005) as well as Planning Officer at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations UN Headquarters New York ( 2006-2010); where he covered UN missions in Kosovo, Georgia, Cyprus, Lebanon and Nepal. He also later covered UN missions in Central African Republic and Chad, Sudan and the UN/AU hybrid mission in Darfur.
Maj Gen Okonkwo served as Commander 48 Task Force Brigade and Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Task Force Division Monguno Borno state (2016-2017) and later Force Commander Special Task Force- Operation Safe Haven that cover Plateau state, parts of Kaduna and Bauchi states ( 2020-2021). He was also the Armed Forces representative at the Cameroun-Nigeria Mixed Border Commission; Geneva, Douala and Abuja.
He holds a Masters of Arts degree in National Security Studies from America Military University Virginia USA, a fellow of the National Defence College Abuja and an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School Boston USA as well as the African Center for Strategic Studies.
